Here I am, once again, wishing I dressed this cute in real life.

And I was greeted with this upon login, which I assume means the 3.0 update is a day early. I didn’t see any updates, but maybe I have to talk to Isabelle first? Can’t say I put much time into checking when I was mostly running around gathering last-minute screenshots for this post on which I as usual procrastinated big time.

Anyway, that’ll be a subject for the next ACNH post. Long story short, I decided just this minute to convert my Animal Crossing tag to its own full-blown category, and just look where we are now. Lots more Animal Crossing content. That’s where we are. We are here because two months ago I decided the time was ripe to wipe Mossflower off the map. It wasn’t finished, but I was really stuck in a rut with that island and there were too many things I was unwilling to change, and plus I really wanted to change my character name. I would’ve just flattened the whole thing and started over, but that was so much work and I wouldn’t have been able to change the name of either the island or my character. On November 9, I therefore deleted Mossflower and opened a new island with the intention of building it around a Shady Hollow theme NO I AM NOT OVER THE END OF THAT SERIES. Which all would’ve been fine, except that I’d forgotten about the ten-character island name limit, just like I always fucking do. Which is precisely how I ended up with an island named MirrorLake, because a space counts as a character and I cannot fully articulate how infuriating that is.

And this is exactly how far I got.

I was ready to accept this unhappy compromise for maybe two hours, until I got in the shower and just suddenly decided MirrorLake was completely unacceptable and I wanted to be called Shady Holl instead. I am, how you say, a little bit crazy, which is how we ended up back here not even 18 hours later. Looking at the timestamps, it looks as if I restarted the first time at three in the morning and then restarted again at three in the afternoon of the same day, and I wish that were even slightly a surprise. This is what happens when I don’t have work the next day.

And that is the story all about how I restarted my second island twice in less than 24 hours. To be frank, I was really hoping I would get some less ugly villagers my second go-round, but I didn’t and that unibrowed squirrel is hideous and got chased off the island ASAP. I was thisclose to unhauling the bear as well, until I decided he could stay because he was basically Orville. I am not overly displeased with my current villager line-up: Spike and Patty need to go (sry guys, there’s no cows or rhinos in Shady Hollow), but the rest all belong to species that have been mentioned at least once during the course of the series. Flurry gets a pass for now because she’s cute even if there also aren’t any hamsters in Shady Hollow. As to the name, I’m not thrilled thrilled about it, but it’s something. I can live with it. I did briefly consider names like Cold Clay and Caltrey, which both would’ve fit, but in the end Shady Holl won out.

I need to see about getting the island up to three stars so I can unlock terraforming. In the meantime, here’s some of my recent doings, complete with art-collecting, a shopping spree at Kicks’s, and establishing the island’s economy.
And my house, current as of last night:
My house was not originally on that cliff. I am dissatisfied with its current location, because I was picturing something more like this.

But there’s no room in that space for my fences, so I’m back to trying to get my terraforming again. Other projects: filling in the living room, which had the bookcases until I opened up my fourth room, and doing something about that kitchen. I might also move the office corner from the bedroom to either the living room or the library. I kinda want the living room to be the social area, with the goal of moving the bedroom upstairs when I open the second floor, but I don’t have the furniture to make that happen. Maybe I’ll transfer over one of the TVs and an extra console from Jelly Cove. IIRC Jelly Cove has too many TVs. Might cheat and steal some money while I’m at it. Jelly Cove is sitting on a stockpile of $8M and extra furniture and she has absolutely fuck all to do with any of it, which is a major problem with the longevity of this game.
As for Mossflower, she is gone but not forgotten. It took me a couple of tries to get it right, but I saved her under a Dream Address before I restarted. I might’ve terraformed my way into a corner, but I am proud of the work that I did, and I will be visiting in my dreams.
